Objective: To understand a work’s complexity, to absorb richness of meaning, and to analyze how meaning is
embodied in literary form. [Macbeth quiz; Macbeth envelope activity]
Objective: To write, focusing on critical analysis of literature including expository, analytical, and
argumentative essays as well as creative writing to sharpen understanding of writers’ accomplishments and
deepen appreciation of literary artistry. [Revised Essay assignment]
Warm-Up: Submit Revised Essays [students not submitting an essay will receive a 50% on this MAJOR grade;
students who submit their original draft with 4 or fewer revisions will receive a 70% because the entire
assignment is to REVISE.]
Activities: Macbeth quiz – O-E topic connecting a famous quote to characterization in Macbeth
Macbeth envelope activity groups meet, add analysis notes for Act II (envelopes will differentiate
learning/analysis as different groups examine different topics in the same play)

nothing” speech in Act II, Sc. 1; students will complete these five portions of the analysis for homework
