I can analyze how the ideology behind the revolution affected relationships between different ethnic, racial, and social groups. I can explain how the newly independent United States attempted to formulate a national economy. I can develop a thesis statement that includes an assertion and subpoints. Monday Activities: 1. Do Now- Explain the purpose of the Intolerable Acts. 2. Document Analysis: Road To Revolution- Students will analyze documents highlighting events that ultimately led to the American Revolution. 3. Thesis Statements Practice- Students will review the key components of a thesis statement and practice writing their own thesis statements. Materials: Documents Follow Up/HW: Follow reading schedule AND study for Chapter 5 Quiz on block day Tuesday Activities 1. Do Now- Explain the Sugar Act. 2. Class Discussion: Events of the American Revolution- Students will take notes and discuss the sequence of events of the war for independence. 3. Cooperative Learning: Should We Revolt Against Great Britain- In a brief role playing activity, students will take on the role of colonist and debate whether or not to revolt against England. Materials: Powerpoint Follow Up/HW: Follow reading schedule AND study for Chapter 5 Quiz on block day Wed/Thur Activities: 1. Do Now- Which battle of the American Revolution secured French aid? 2. Document Analysis: The Declaration of Independence- In groups, students will analyze the text of the Declaration of Independence. 3. Thesis Statements Practice- Students will review the key components of a thesis statement and practice writing their own thesis statements. 4. Chapter 5 Quiz- Students will answer 15 multiple-choice questions over Brinkley Chapter 5. Materials: Follow Up/HW: Follow reading schedule AND study for Assessment #4 Friday Activities: 1. Do Now- Take out a pen and prepare for assessment. 2. Assessment #4: Thesis Statements- Students will compose thesis statements for a major grade assessment.
