Mapping of Strategic Initiatives vs Strategic Issues and Significant Opportunities from 2/2012 Systems Appraisal

The Planning Advisory Council (PAC) – Selecting new AQIP Action Projects, March 27, 2012
The PAC obtained input (see worksheet below) from the five strategic planning Focus Leaders to determine whether the college’s current strategic initiatives
address the strategic issues and significant opportunities identified in the 2012 Systems Appraisal Feedback Report. The PAC also heard a report of the Focus
Leaders’ discussion. As a result, the PAC determined that the current strategic initiatives do address the strategic issues and significant opportunities to varying
degrees; however they are not over-arching therefore are not “systematic.” The PAC decided to launch the following as new Action Projects:

A Plan for Process Mapping, led by Dr. Gregg Busch, to address strategic issue “Systematic Processes” and AQIP Category 6 “Supporting
Institutional Operations”

Developing a True First Year Experience, team leaders to be named, to bring three strategic initiatives together (Career Planning & Goal
Development, Overcoming Financial Barriers, Success Skills) and better address the four strategic issues and AQIP Category 1 Helping Students
Learn

*For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “Yes” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Is this strategic issue/opportunity being addressed
by the college? How?
*For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “No” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Why is this NOT a priority for the college at this
time?
Program and Service Review:
*For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “Yes” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Is this strategic issue/opportunity being addressed by the
college? How? SI Systemic Processes. The IR process is established across the College in both academic programs as well as support services. The committee is made up from academic
programs and staff departments. Final reviews are submitted to the VP of Learning. Process-Focused use of data : This is exactly what this committee does “collect multiple measures
evaluating specific effectiveness of processes. Culture of continuous Quality Improvement: Weakness and strength of programs and departments are identified. Specific plans are review
and department recommendations are/will be review and implemented to address identified weakness(es). 1R3, 2R2-4, and Overall opportunity category 7, measuring effectiveness: A 3
year rotating calendar was created to maintain “on-going” review and assessment. Academic program will review and trend data from program Assessment report for the 3 year period.
*For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “No” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Why is this NOT a priority for the college at this time?
Systemic Collaboration: really does not apply, IR is an internal process
Program and Service Development
For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “Yes” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Is this strategic issue/opportunity being addressed by the
college? How? Both Strategic Issues listed as a yes are being addressed with a specific process that is using data and incorporates collaboration both internal and external. This program
development initiative will be completed annually based on time lines established with report to PAC of outcomes plus it will require collaboration with internal faculty and staff plus
external stakeholders.
For every strategic issue/opportunity with a “No” in the last column for which there are no associated strategic initiatives: Why is this NOT a priority for the college at this time? The
Program Development initiative does not become involved in the overall processes of strategic issues these would become apparent with the Program Review.
