Integrating AQIP Processes at NC State
B. Description of Project
 The purpose of this project is to integrate AQIP processes into the existing processes and
structure of the college.
 Measurable goals include:
o Disbanding of the AQIP Steering Committee
o Annual updating of the Systems Portfolio
o Management of AQIP Action Projects, including Annual Updates
o Conducting Quality Checkup Visit

Proposals are required for projects or activities a) that require budgetary resources beyond the sponsor's usual
operating budget, b) those that impact processes and people from more than one operational area, and/or c) those
that directly support the strategic plan/strategic initiatives of the institution.
○ Productive grades (C- or better) in all courses.
○ Improve term-to-term persistence.
○ Improve graduation rates.
□ Use data to drive strategies, monitor progress and evaluate outcomes
□ Involve faculty, students, staff and communities in developing and implementing
□ Report data and outcomes broadly, both on and off campus; advocate for state and national
policy

D. Project Relevance and Legitimacy
 Maintaining accreditation is a priority and a strategic task of the College.
 The College has completed processes for implementing AQIP (application and
acceptance, two sessions of Strategy Forum, writing first version of Systems Portfolio,
first Systems Appraisal) under the guidance of the AQIP Steering Committee.
 The team that attended the February 2009 Strategy Forum identified this as a relevant
project under the guidance of the Higher Learning Commission/AQIP.
 The November 2007 version of the Systems Portfolio has not been updated.
 The Planning Advisory Council (PAC) is active in strategic planning at the College.
 Some members of the AQIP Steering Committee and the AQIP Liaison are also members
of PAC.
 Management of AQIP processes could be conducted through the PAC.
E. Organizational Impact
 PAC and the AQIP Liaison will be responsible for managing AQIP processes.
 Action Project Team Leaders will report to PAC or PAC’s designee.
 The AQIP Steering Committee will be disbanded.
 No additional resources will be needed for this project.
F. Key Processes
AQIP and strategic planning processes through PAC are the key processes affected by this
project.
G. Timeline/Milestones
o Disbanding of the AQIP Steering Committee – 4/2009;
o Celebrate success of the AQIP Steering Committee – 5/2009
o Annual updating of the Systems Portfolio – Annually in September
o Management of AQIP Action Projects – As needed
 Annual Updates – Annually in September
o Conducting Quality Checkup Visit – in 2009/10 (every 7 years)

H. Project Monitoring
The AQIP Liaison will monitor progress toward the timeline/milestones and will report at least
quarterly to PAC and the College President.
I. Assessment
 Outcome measures include the accomplishment of the milestones in part G.
 Process measures will include:

o A semi-annual review of Action Projects (adding new, continuing or retiring
current).
o Quarterly progress reports on updating of the Systems Portfolio.
PAC will include evaluation of its management of AQIP processes in its annual selfevaluation.
