C-Ville Weekly Information and Template
C-VILLE Information
This is a local newspaper published weekly. It is widely read locally.
There is a special page dedicated to research at the UVA Health System.
There is a fee for publishing in this newspaper.
In order to place an ad on the UVA page in the C’VILLE Weekly, the C’VILLE template MUST be used
and all formatting rules must be followed.
Study teams submit IRB approved ads to Karen Davenport, kgd@virginia.edu, who then submits the ad
to Marketing Communications. Ads must be in Word format.
UVA page ads are format driven. Wording must be simple and succinct in order for the ad to fit.
Note: Study teams may run a more creative and longer ad in the rest of the paper – this requires
University Marketing Communications approval before final IRB approval can be issued for distribution.
The HEADER must be no more than 29 characters
This should be 3 or 4 words. No more than 1 line. Do not use qualifiers in the Header. Keep it short,
simple, and succinct.
 For example: rather than ‘Healthy Lonely People Feeling Depressed’ try ‘Depression Study’
The BODY of the TEXT must be no more than 80 words, including compensation information and PI
name.
It is not the responsibility of the IRB to do a word count.



NO BULLETS. Text must be in paragraph form.
Do not include the department name in the Header or Body of the text, since it is in the
contact information section. Consider ‘Researchers are conducting/seeking…’ for the opening
line.
Compensation Information and the PI’s name must be listed on the last line of the Body of
the text.
The CONTACT INFORMATION
No more than 4 lines:
 UVA department OR division OR center name
 Contact name
 One contact phone number or email
If the ad is more than 80 words long or will not fit the space, Karen Davenport will return the ad to the
study team with an explanation of the problems. The team will then need to correct the errors and
resubmit to the IRB for approval.
