One World Week 2016 Event Proposal / Funding Application Form What/when is One World Week 2016? ‘One World Week’ happens at Sussex in March each year and aims to celebrate the diversity of our campus community, raise awareness of global issues, and encourage cultural understanding. One World Week 2015 hosted 72 different events which included the South Asian spring festival of Holi, international cooking demonstrations, sports classes and dance displays from all over the globe, language taster classes, and a huge number of talks and debates from student societies and academic schools. 2016 will mark Sussex’s third One World Week, and will be taking place during the week beginning Monday 14 March. The programme will again divide all events into the following categories; sport and leisure; media and performance; information and display; talks and debate; fun and competition. Anyone within the University community is welcome to submit a proposal for an event which they wish to organise as part of One World Week 2016. Whilst you, or your department or your society will be the main organiser(s) of your individual event, throughout the planning stages you will also receive support and guidance from International Student Support and the Students’ Union, who are the main core organisers of the week. If you would like to propose an event, please complete the ‘Section 1: Event Proposal’ on the next page and then email the whole document to ISSOfficers@sussex.ac.uk by Friday 11 December 2015. Bidding for funding to support your event: In addition to receiving practical support in organising your event, a ‘One World’ fund of money is available to financially support the activities of staff and student groups/societies who wish to put on events which celebrate the ‘One World’ ethos. Due to the success of One World Week in previous years, for 2016 an increased sum of £10,000 has been generously awarded from the Sussex Fund, and we are therefore incredibly grateful to alumni donors who generously contribute to this. Whilst 20% of this fund has been allocated towards supporting One World Sussex activities which take place during the rest of the year outside the main One World Week, the vast majority of the fund is there for One World Week itself. You can apply for up to £500 to support your event. If you would like to bid for funding, please complete BOTH the ‘Event Proposal’ section and the ‘Funding Application’ section of this form, then email the whole document to ISSOfficers@sussex.ac.uk by Friday 11 December 2015. Please see the conditions of receiving funding at the very end of this document.
