Science & Social Studies Physical science: observe, compare, classify and describe objects to discover how things are made Culture: analyzing the similarities and differences of two cultures (Pilgrims and Wampanoag communities) Geography: Using tools to locate describe places on earth; learning how people adapt to their environment. Family newsletters, letters to friends, and diaries or journals are wonderful opportunities for students to learn the value of writing. Have your second grader write invitations to Thanksgiving dinner for your guests. They could also be in charge of writing the grocery list for the big day. Fall and winter can also be a great time to practice keeping charts and notes about favorite sports teams. The key is for students to enjoy writing and to understand why it is a useful skill to use in their everyday lives.
