How to Help at Home
Encourage authentic writing at home! Family
newsletters, letters to friends, and diaries or journals
are wonderful opportunities for students to learn the
value of writing.
Have your second grader write invitations to
Thanksgiving dinner for your guests. They could also
be in charge of writing the grocery list for the big
day. Fall and winter can also be a great time to
practice keeping charts and notes about favorite
sports teams.
The key is for students to enjoy writing and to
understand why it is a useful skill to use in their
everyday lives.
 Bring your Homework folder to school every
day
 Remember to READ EVERY NIGHT
 Be prepared for school! Have your pencils and
other materials ready for learning!
