Overview of Internship: The goal of the Office of the Dean of Students is to promote the
intellectual, cultural, personal, and social development of students, and it does this in a variety of
ways. For the past couple of years, the Program Coordinator for Multicultural Student Services
has overseen an internship for UVa’s Hispanic/Latino community based on a project that the
student intern chooses.
The chosen project will relate to the needs of the Hispanic/Latino/Latin American population at
UVa and it will directly benefit the mission and goals of the Dean of Students Office. The
Program Coordinator will help you plan your project, offer guidance whenever necessary,
facilitate useful relationships with people relevant to your project and will evaluate the outcome.
Time-frame and Schedule: 3 hours per week. A one-hour weekly meeting between the hours of
9am-5pm will be scheduled once class schedules are settled. Two hours will be dedicated to the
project outside of the regular meeting times. We will coordinate your hours according to your
schedule. The internship will begin 10 days after the start of classes.

Professional Development: The intern will
 Build relationships with professionals in the division of Student Affairs at the University
of Virginia.

directly supports underrepresented communities.

programs related to Student Affairs and cross-cultural education.
