3. Faculty who have an “immediate, obvious, and sincere interest in students and their careers.” (Quote
from preceptor alumnus.)
4. The program design and sequencing of courses which are effective toward completion of the degree.
5. Scheduling of graduate classes which is practical and realistic for students.
6. A project-based field placement requirement that is in line with what the students and preceptors
need.
Recommendations:
The Department should:
1. Monitor enrollment so that checked declaration of the major and subsequent enrollment doesn’t
diminish resources.
2. Within the confines of the budget, add faculty to keep pace with the increase in student numbers.
3. Give a faculty member release time to develop online advising.
Understanding: The Department is in the process of completing online advising.
4. Seek parity of faculty re-assigned to function in their capacity as graduate coordinators.
5. Consider the feasibility of accreditation “across the board” before the next program review.
6. Consider procuring an admissions system to allow for better sharing of data for the admissions
process between central Administration and the Department.
7. Continue systematic review / evaluation of the part-time faculty.
Understanding: This review is currently done annually.
8. Pay attention to the changing ratio of part-time to fulltime faculty.
9. Seek continued funding for tutorial support to address insufficient math and English skills.
The BS in Public Health Promotion should:
1. Conduct an analysis of the undergraduate curriculum and link course objectives to professional
competencies, e.g., National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
Understanding: The Department is in the process of beginning this analysis in Fall 2012.
2. Review classes for possible unnecessary duplication of content material.
3. Re-title some of the courses to reflect more accurately the courses’ intent and content, e.g., instead of
“Senior Seminar,” consider “Program Planning in the Health Sciences.”
4. Add more specific health-related content within major courses.
Understanding: The Department states that issues of health are sufficiently addressed in all major
courses.
5. Consider a degree name change to something like Public Health, with emphases on concentrations,
e.g., in Community Health Education, Epidemiology, or other pertinent area(s).
Understanding: The Department will seek changing the name of the degree to Public Health in Fall
2012.
6. Consider availability of content courses in such areas as human sexuality, pathophysiology, and
alcohol and other drugs
Understanding: The Department is considering additional courses in these areas.

7. Re-title some of the courses to reflect more accurately the courses’ intent and content, e.g., instead of
“Senior Seminar,” consider “Program Planning in the Health Sciences.”
The MS in Health Administration should:
1. Consider the feasibility of accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare
Management Education (CAHME) or other external professional organization, if available when the
Department is ready to pursue. (SEE Cynthia’s copy.)
2. Redesign the graduate admission process with a specific eye towards redefining the selection
criteria. Find and use technology to support the recruiting of a higher caliber of graduate students.
3. Consider a capstone project in lieu of a comprehensive examination as an option with consideration
of the resource implications.
4. Clarify how the learning goals and objectives of the graduate program (MSHA) are distinct from the
undergraduate degree in Health Administration.
5. Continue to emphasize professionalism (language, appearance, verbal and written communication
skills, appropriate use of technology, etc.) and ethics among graduate students.
6. Consider a mentoring process for students.
7. Consider ways in which to enhance diverse learning experiences among field placements.
8. Formalize a plan to recruit new faculty over the next few years.
