Class Scheduling Timeline Next fall ASU will fully use the Oracle/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions product for student administration processes. The OASIS team is leading the effort to implement this new software for ASU. One of the first activities that must be completed in PeopleSoft is building the class schedule. Many schedulers are actively working the product now to build the class schedule. This is a new method for requesting classes. The printed class skeletons and class request forms are no longer the method to request classes. The OASIS team has extended the deadline for requesting classes until November 17, 2006. A general timeline for building the class schedule follows. Now – 11/17/06 Request Fall 2006 Class Schedule using a copy of the class schedule from last fall department schedulers work in PeopleSoft to build classes. 11/20/06 – 12/10/06 Rooms are Assigned using the new room scheduling system Ad Astra, rooms are assigned to the classes requested based on room characteristics and scheduling algorithms. Department schedulers are not active in the PeopleSoft system. Academic Scheduling office fine tunes room assignments. Those departments that schedule selected rooms work in Ad Astra. 12/11/06 – 1/2/07 Department Validation: This step is more extensive than the former “proofing” step. In addition to making corrections and adjustments, departments will assign sections to special cohort groups and validate course requirement rules. 1/3/07 – 01/25/07 Administrative Validation: Administrative offices confirm class fees, funding codes, associated sections and component structures. 01/29/07 Release schedule to advisors: Advisors have an early view of the class schedule as advising sessions commence for Fall 2007. 02/15/07 Class Schedule Released: Class schedule is available on the web for faculty, staff and the general public. Departments are playing an active role in the scheduling process and will use the PeopleSoft system to do this rather than the former paper-based process. If you have questions about the new system or procedures please contact the Academic Scheduling office. Kathy Tibbetts Director, Classroom Scheduling Katie Ranes Functional Director, OASIS Project
