1. Edit the paper. Mark grammatical errors, formatting errors, and confusing content / word
choice.
2. Complete the checklist (below). If the answer to a question is “no,” briefly state to the right of
the question what is problematic.
3. Assign the essay a rubric score for each category. Justify each score with approximately two
sentences of explanation. Cite specific examples.
Example: Grammar – 15. Bob vacillates between past tense and present tense throughout his
essay, which, as a result, is confusing. For example, in paragraph four he states, “Lee states”
while in paragraph five he notes “Lee described.”
