Community Service Project Guidelines Community Service Project: Each member is required to complete one project a year. There are three types of projects that fit the requirements of an NHS community service project that are listed below. Please remember that these are descriptions and examples not a list of preapproved projects. All groups must submit a proposal and receive approval from the officers before the project is started. There is a maximum of 4 people working on the same project. When the project is finished, each member of the group must submit their own reflection form. Community Awareness: this type of project focuses on education the community about an important issue. Awareness campaigns could be carried out through posters, announcements, videos, and presentations to other clubs about the issue. Examples: danger of texting while driving, environmental issues such as recycling or energy consumption, hunger, homelessness, poverty and bullying. Community Action: these projects are goal oriented focus on making a difference in a specific part of our community. Examples: see sample list below Fundraising for a specific cause: type of project requires you to identify the group receiving the money and what they will be using the money for. All fundraisers must go through Mrs. Mantua in the business office so please get your fundraising dates reserved at the beginning of the year. Specific Requirements for Drive Projects: If you are planning to do a collection drive of any kind (canned food, clothing, pet supply or old cell phones just as a few examples) please pay attention to these special requirements. Specify the organization you are collecting for and its address. Collections drives must be advertised to whole school not just NHS. Proposals for first semester drives must be submitted by October 7th or February 3rd for second semester. Action Portion: collection boxes must be placed in a central location where it is easy for people to donate. Boxes must be checked and emptied at least once a week. Drives cannot last more than 3 weeks. When the drive is over, boxes and items should be promptly removed. Awareness Portion: drives must be advertised with at least 2 announcements. These announcements and/or posters should include information about the issue to encourage people to participate.
