Project Objectives
• To learn more about the behaviors that put MN gay and
bisexual men at risk for HIV and other STDs
• To assess HIV testing behaviors among gay/bisexual men
in MN
• To assess exposure to, use, and impact of prevention
services among gay/bisexual men in MN

How Was the Project Conducted?

Based on a convenience sample of men attending 2004 Twin Cities
GLBT Pride Festival
 Men were randomly approached and asked to participate
 Males 18 years of age or older were eligible to participate

Face-to-face interviews were conducted using handheld computers

966 persons were asked to participate in the survey. Of these, 418
accepted and were eligible. A total of 379 completed the interview.


Results are based on men attending 2004 Pride and do not
necessarily represent all gay/bi-sexual men in Minnesota

Did not collect information on non-participants; Potential for
bias exists if participants and non-participants have
different characteristics and behaviors

Comments

Compared to those with a single partner, MSM with multiple
partners were more likely to use the internet and bars to
meet partners

Majority of men surveyed had been tested for HIV
(88% had ever been tested)

Free condoms and prevention literature most common
prevention activities

Majority of men who received prevention services used
them
