Below are only some of the scholarships that are available for the 2015-16 school
year. More will be added as they arrive to Wheaton HS. Please research the
other websites listed below. There are many, many scholarships available!
Scholarships are monetary gifts that can be used to pay for college. Students do not have to repay scholarship money.
Remember that no legitimate competitive scholarship will ever require information like a credit card number, a bank
account number, or any kind of upfront fee. No legitimate scholarship website can guarantee that a student will receive
a scholarship.

Scholarship: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Eta Pi Zeta Chapter Scholarship

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Eta Pi Zeta Chapter is pleased to announce that it
is now accepting applications for the 2016 scholarship awards. Book and regular
scholarships will be awarded in amounts up to $1,000 (subject to change).
CRITERIA

• be accepted at a (2) or (4) year College or University,

• live or attend school in Montgomery County, MD.

PROCEDURES:
To be considered for the scholarship, an applicant must

• The attached scholarship application.
• An essay (instructions are provided as part of this application).
• Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a teacher and
sent in a sealed envelope signed by a school official).
• An official copy of the applicant’s high school transcript indicating the
cumulative unweighted GPA.

Scholarship: 2016 NAACP SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS INFORMATION SHEET
Deadline: Friday, February 12, 2016
The Montgomery County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) will award $1,000 scholarships to students residing in
Montgomery County. The scholarships will be presented at the Freedom Fund Dinner on
Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Bethesda North Conference Center, 5701 Marinelli Road,
North Bethesda, Maryland.
Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a graduating high school senior.




Must have a grade point average or a weighted grade point average of 3.0 or above.
Must participate in extracurricular activities.
Must participate in faith-based, religious-based, or volunteer activities. If this is
not possible because of paid employment, please explain.
Must submit a completed scholarship application by Friday, February 12, 2016.
How to Apply:

Complete the official application form. The application form may be reproduced
but may not be altered, and must be filled out completely.

Submit two school references (original copies on school letterhead): one reference
from a school counselor or an administrator and the other from a staff member.

Submit an official copy of your MCPS high school transcript.

Indicate if you will attend a college or university in Maryland.

Submit a 300-word, double-spaced, typed essay, which addresses the theme,
“Again We Rise.” Students are encouraged to provide their own personal
interpretation of the theme. The essay must accompany the application. In
addition, a three to four paragraph typed narrative about the applicant should be
included.

Scholarship: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship
Deadline: February 13, 2016
The Scholarship Program currently has the following types of scholarships, which
are explained below:
1. County-Wide Scholarship
The County-Wide Scholarship was established to provide financial awards for high
school students who have excelled in their academics.
2. MCAC Educational Program Scholarship
The Montgomery County (Maryland) Alumnae Chapter (MCAC) Educational
Program Scholarship was established to provide financial awards to high school
students who have participated in the MCAC Educational Program for a minimum of
two consecutive years.
3. Career/Vocational/Technical Scholarship
The Vocational/Training Scholarship was established to provide financial awards to
students who want to advance their education/skill set by participating in a
career/vocational/technical program. These programs are traditionally described as
those that focus on specific vocational skills needed within certain occupations.

Scholarship: The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships
Deadline: March 1, 2016
The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships were established by the Association of School Business Officials of
Maryland and the District of Columbia to assist those citizens of the State and/or District who require
financial assistance to secure a college education. Scholarships are awarded to deserving
undergraduate students pursuing a career in Business or Education at an accredited institution of higher
education within Maryland or the District of Columbia. Dwight P. Jacobus was the first Executive Director of
ASBO.
Eligibility:
Scholarships may be awarded only to persons who have:
· Been residents of Maryland or the District of Columbia for at least one year preceding the date of
award
· Been accepted for admission as a full time student (as defined by the recipient's attending school)
· Demonstrated a financial need
· A minimum 3.0 overall GPA (Applicants considered are high school seniors and current recipients
eligible for renewal.)

Scholarship: Paul Robeson Scholarship

The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s Paul Robeson Scholarship 2016 emphasis is to provide
scholarships to African American males, an under- represented group seeking higher education
scholarships. The scholarships, for Montgomery County, Maryland high school graduating seniors, have
a minimum value of$1,000.

Write a 500 word essay on the topic: Recent well-publicized and controversial deaths
of African Americans at the hands of police make it appear that the relationship
between the police and the community has diminished. Does a community's
relationship with the police matter? If so, what would you do to improve that
relationship?
Separately, write a 200 word biography on Paul Robeson.
Submit an official high school transcript.
Submit three letters of references: two from school officials (guidance counselor,
principal, teacher, etc.) and one from a community organization or faith-based group.
Describe your leadership qualities (e.g., in community, school, church, or athletics).
Provide a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of2.5.
Provide a statement of financial need (attach a separate sheet, if necessary).
This package will be provided to Montgomery County high school counselors to disseminate to graduating
senior African American males. Submit applications post marked by March 4, 2016.

Scholarship: Earl Wood Scholarship – Tiger Woods Foundation
Deadline: March 11, 2016
GENERAL INFORMATION
 The Earl Woods Scholars program was created in 2006 to honor the vision and spirit of Earl Woods and
continue his legacy of caring and sharing
 Eligible candidates are graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence,
commitment to community service and financial need
 Annual scholarship award is up to $5,000 (renewable for up to four years)
 Scholars will participate in workshop opportunities throughout the year
 Scholars will be matched with a dedicated Mentor
 Scholars will receive internship opportunities
 Scholars will be provided with career development services for post-baccalaureate plans
 Applications must be postmarked no later than March 11, 2016
 Scholarship Finalists must be available for an in-person interview on Sunday, April 10 (hold the
date)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
 Student must be a graduating high school senior from a geographic area that has been invited to apply
 Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.00

Scholarship: Paul Vance Scholarship
Deadline: March 17, 2016
The Dream Scholarship Awards Project provides financial assistance to help offset
educational and training expenses for low- and moderate- income students who are not
eligible for federal PELL grant funds due to their immigrant status. We assist with tuition
and/or school related expenses.
The Dream Scholarship Awards Project is a pilot project of The Bernie Scholarship
Awards Program, established in honor of Bernard Tetreault and his 24 years as
Executive Director of Montgomery County's Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC).
It is funded by tax deductible private contributions and administered by an independent

Who is eligible for a Dream Scholarship Award?
1. Applicant must be a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland, be ineligible for

Scholarship: WRTC Scholarship

Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) is pleased to announce two
scholarships available to your high school seniors: Leslie Ebert Legacy of Life Essay and
Leslie Ebert Legacy of Life Video. Applicable students can apply for both
scholarships. We are excited to announce that two of the ten scholarships will be $5,000
scholarships.
The Leslie Ebert Memorial Fund will award one $5,000 first place, one $3,000 second
place, and three $1,000 honorable mentions for both scholarships.

Scholarship: CKA SAVE Project Academic Athletic Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:
The CKA SAVE Project Scholarship Award is open to any senior student athlete who has matched the
following criteria:
ï‚· Played or Managed at least 2 years on high school athletics
ï‚· Maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
ï‚· Completed at least one AP or IB class
ï‚· Have a minimum of 100 documented community service hours
Application Requirements:
1) Complete and submit the student application.
2) Submit a copy of the student’s unofficial transcript.
3) Provide two letters of recommendation.
4) Submit an essay on the topic, “How has being a student athlete helped you achieve your career goals?”
Your essay should be 250-500 words typed in Times New Romans font in 12pt type. The essay must be
submitted with completed application information.
5) Submit a copy of an admittance letter to a post-secondary institute.

Scholarship: Esperanza Education Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2016
In Spring 2016, the Esperanza Education Fund will award scholarships of at least $5,000 and up to $20,000
to immigrant students in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to attend public colleges and
universities, regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.

Selection Criteria and Process
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on qualities traditionally valued and demonstrated by the
immigrant community: hard work, resourcefulness, perseverance in the face of adversity, academic

community will review applications and select a group of finalists for interviews.

Scholarship: Gram’s Promise Elizabeth “Libby” Memorial Scholarship
Deadline: April 22, 2016
The purpose of the Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Frist Memorial Scholarship is to recognize selected high school
seniors for their activism and leadership among their peers in the fight against tobacco use. Maryland High
School Seniors who are tobacco-free and have demonstrated a commitment to anti-smoking advocacy are

Scholarship: BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed
in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student.
