What Does It Take to Get Into
College?

University of Maryland receives approximately 28,000 applications for a class of 4,000.

NWHS students who were accepted in 2015 had an average GPA of 3.78 and SAT of 1934.


Towson University receives over 18,000 applications for a class of 3,000.
NWHS students who were accepted in 2015 had an average GPA of 3.26 and SAT of 1657.


Mount St. Mary’s University receives over 6,000 applications for a class of 500.
NWHS students who were accepted in 2015 had an average GPA of 3.00 and SAT of 1497.
Half-Day Options
Internship:
 Opportunity to get real-world experience in your future career
 Can be taken as either a double-period or triple-period class
 Strong candidates have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and good attendance
 Must complete the application by February 16th, 2016

Dual Enrollment Program at Montgomery College:
 Opportunity to take courses on a college campus
 Earn college credits at a reduced cost for those who qualify
 Application process must be completed by February 22nd , 2016.
Site-Based Work Experience:
 Must complete CCRD to be eligible
 Must find and maintain employment
 Must work at least 8 hours a week

Earning college credit while in high school with Montgomery College
For a successful MC experience, high school juniors should:
• have a minimum 3.0 GPA
• be prepared to take the SAT or ACT as early as March or April with qualifying
scores of a minimum 500 SAT Critical Reading | 500 Math or 21 ACT Math | 21
ACT English
• be prepared to take the Accuplacer for college level placement if no college test
scores are available
Things to consider:
• Have you taken advantage of the rigorous curriculum offered at Northwest?
Colleges place a great deal of importance on the course content taken at the high
school level.
• Do you have a transportation plan for getting to campus? Transportation is the
responsibility of the student.
• Cost? Montgomery County students may be eligible for a reduction in cost but
cost and payment may still be a deciding factor.
Interested? Ask for the brochure today! Student Interest Forms in the
brochure MUST be returned to counselors by February 16 to receive the
Dual Enrollment Application. Application due date: February 22
