The Spanish Honor Society at Magruder High School is affiliated with the American
Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and recognizes and promotes high
academic standards who are studying Spanish. Any member may run for an office in the
society and seniors may wear honor cords their graduations.
Students wishing to be considered for induction into the Spanish Honor Society must
complete an application form and return it to Ms. Hodge in room A207 by Sept. 24, 2014.
Once you receive written confirmation that you have been accepted, a one time $10.00
membership fee will be expected. This fee includes your membership in the national
society and your fees for the 2011-2012 school year.
Obligations while in the Spanish Honor Society include but are not limited to





continuous enrollment in a Spanish class.
successful completion of tutoring sessions for lower level Spanish students per
semester.
participation and completing of any and all service project(s).
attendance yearly induction of new members.
attendance at monthly lunchtime meetings—one absence per semester will be
granted upon prior consultation with sponsor.
Eligibility requirements to be met by non-native speakers of Spanish:
1. The student must currently be enrolled in Spanish 4 or higher.
2. The student must have earned a grade of A for at least 6 of the previous semesters of
Spanish study.
3. The student must have maintained a grade average of B+ (GPA 3.3) in all other
classes.
4. The student must get the evaluation completed and signed by his or her current
Spanish teacher and one other academic teacher.
