COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the jazz vocal ensemble skills needed to become a music major. Musicians will study
amplification, microphone technique, jazz phrasing, jazz tone, improvisation, and jazz style. Repertoire will include
literature from jazz styles: blues, swing, latin, fusion, rock and reggae.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate individual vocal microphone technique.
Demonstrate ability to set-up and run sound reinforcement equipment.
Demonstrate the ability to sing one's part against another part with tone and accuracy needed for
amplification.
Demonstrate beginning vocal improvisation on a blues form.
Demonstrate beginning jazz phrasing appropriate to the swing and latin styles.
