ACTIVITIES: (Please provide a list of the activities students will perform in order to satisfy the HBA requirement): COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course allows previously certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) personnel to recertify their license by completing 24 hours of approved instruction. In addition, students will complete the California mandatory 10psychomotor skills exams outlined on Emergency Medical Skills Association skills competency form. At the conclusion of the training the student will receive a continuing education certificate worth 24-hours and signed skills competency form. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition or extent of injuries. Systematically process assessment findings and develop conclusions to assess requirements for emergency medical care. Administer appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment of the patient's condition Describe clearly and concisely pertinent emergency medical information. Interact effectively with patients, bystanders, public service employees, and healthcare professionals Understand one's role and responsibility as an EMT in the EMS system. Assist other Pre-hospital givers in the performance of their duties. Understand the psychological, sociological, and cultural differences of patients, bystanders, and other members of the EMS team. Lift, move, position, and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury. Perform safely and effectively the expectations of being an EMT. INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: The student can apply assessment and diagnosis theory to the evaluation and treatment of medical emergencies. The student will demonstrate competency of California EMT skills COURSE CONTENT (Lecture): Review of the foundations of pre-hospital care. Review of airway and ventilation management techniques. Review of patient assessment techniques Review of medical emergency responses. Review of trauma emergencies medical responses. Review of developmental emergencies including pediatric emergencies and geriatric emergencies. Review of operations including: ambulance operations, gaining access, and major incident response.
