This school year will present new learnings for students, staff, and parents. With our collective efforts and combined commitment to “success for every student”, Cannon Road can strive for continuous achievement and improvement. This year will also bring changes to the Cannon Road staff. Several staff members have moved on to different locations for the 2015-2016 school year. “Change” is one part of life we can all expect. As students arrive, they are expected to walk directly to their classrooms and be seated in the hallway. Parents should take this opportunity to say good-bye to their child before they enter the building for the school day. If your child will be dropped off daily, please enter the parent drop off zone at arrival. From there, staff will be available to assist your child as they enter the building and proceed to their classroom. It is very important your child arrives on time and prepared for the instructional day. Also, it is important that students DO NOT arrive prior to 9:10, as supervision at the school is not available. For their safety, any students who arrive after 9:25 will be considered tardy and parents are expected to sign them in at the office. Tardy students should not enter the building without an adult who escorts them to the office. Student Dismissal Procedures We will start the dismissal procedures daily at 3:50 p.m. At this time, announcements will be made to dismiss all car riders and walkers to the parent pick-up zone. Staff will be available to assist children with this boarding process. For students who will be car riders, your child will be dismissed to you from the Media Center upon your arrival. Any student who rides a bus will be escorted to the All Purpose Room and Gymnasium by their classroom teachers. Once in the APR, students will line up according to their bus color. As busses arrive, students will be walked to their bus for dismissal. If you plan to pick your child up for an early dismissal or change their dismissal plans, please contact the school no later than 3:00 p.m. to make the appropriate arrangements. Transportation Each year, the Department of Transportation reviews all bus routes to assure safety, fairness and equity of service, efficiency, and adherence to local policy and state laws. The bus schedule for students in regular programs is included in this mailing. School Breakfast and Lunch The School Meals flyer explains SNAP, our computerized lunch and breakfast payment system. All students must learn and remember a 4-digit PIN number in order to use the system. Please prepare and send checks made out to Cannon Road Café to deposit in your child’s account. Our Café Manager, will accept deposits for SNAP accounts on August 28th , during the Open House. This is the program where all students in our school receive breakfast in the classroom each day at no cost. This is truly a wonderful opportunity for ALL students to receive a healthy breakfast. Lunch money loans will no longer be provided, instead, students will be offered an alternative “lunch snack.” Parents will be expected to pay the cost for the alternative meal. Therefore, if your child normally brings lunch, it is a very good idea to keep a small amount of money on your child’s account for emergencies. This folder will be sent home every Wednesday. It is used for taking school information home and for parents to send information to the teacher and/or office. This folder does not replace the daily communication and/or homework folders sent home by teachers. The Grade Level Newsletter containing important information, reminders and policies will be included in this folder once a month. Information from city, county, and state agencies is often included as well. Please make sure you read all the information and return any requested forms. School staff will also be available to communicate with you by telephone, email, and/or by scheduled conferences. Please speak with your child’s teacher about the best form of communication when trying to contact you. All questions and/or concerns should first be communicated to your child’s classroom teacher. As needed, other staff members (i.e. counselor, school administrators) will assist in the communication process. If you are new to Cannon Road, I welcome you and your family to our community. For our returning families, I look forward to working with you and your child again this year. Parents are asked to become involved in the school process as much as possible. Your time and efforts will make a great difference in the lives of our children. The only requirement for volunteering is a willingness to make a difference in a child’s life. If you don’t know how to get involved, contact your child’s teacher or the PTA for there are endless opportunities awaiting you! Enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer and we look forward to seeing you at our “Open House” on Friday, August 28th from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. Sincerely, Norman L. Coleman Norman L.
