Welcome to a New School Year!
Welcome back! This is going to be a “PAW-Some” year. This year we welcome several new staff
members. Courtney Fike is our new middle school teacher. Kayla Gerhold and Nicole Gibson are
our new speech language pathologists. Patrick George is our new staff development teacher. Last,
but not least, Lucie Brownson joins us as a para-educator. Please join me in a “roaring” welcome
to all.
Remember we have a different arrival and dismissal time this year. The student day is 9:25 am to
3:50 pm. If you need to reach a staff member, the best times to call are between 8:45 am and 9:15
am or between 3:55 pm and 4:15 pm.
Back to School meetings will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 2 pm and again at 6:45
pm. We hope to see you there to hear about all the exciting plans we have for you and your family.
This is a great opportunity to hear about the curriculum at Longview and what your child will be
learning this year. It’s also a great time to make sure all your contact information (phone, email) is
up to date.
I hope you will consider volunteering for us this year. We always have the best group of
“lionteers”! We will have sign ups available at our back to school meetings. As always, your
involvement and support helps make Longview the very special place it is. I hope that you will visit
often and continue to be involved in your child(ren’s) education. I want to hear from you and
together we will make this a “PAWSitively” awesome year!

P.T.A. NEWS
Dear Longview Families,
The start of a new school year is always an exciting time. I am thrilled to be starting another year as
your Longview Representative, and on behalf of the MES/LV PTA would like to welcome all of you to the
2015-16 school year! The PTA has been very busy this summer planning and fine tuning programs and
activities that are specially tailored for our children.
It is our mission at the MES/LV PTA to encourage and support our parents, staff and students and there
is no better way to do that than to get involved in the PTA. So whether you can help run a committee,
become a volunteer, or just simply join the PTA, no effort is too small. It is because of the strong
volunteer efforts of our parents and the dedication of our staff that we are able to offer so many
academic supports, grants, and activities throughout the school year. PTA Supports us through ...
 Fund Raisers
 Student Activities
 Battery Drives
 Mini grants
 Inviting cookie sales at PTA events
 Parking RSVP
 Volunteers
 Cultural arts events
 Teacher reimbursements
 Dining for Dollars
 And much, much more!
Please take the time to read about our many committees, and fill out the Volunteer Request and PTA
Membership forms, all of which can be found on our website at www.meslvpta.org.
We would like to share with you the MCCPTA involvement in Special Education. Joining your school’s PTA
can be a powerful way to help promote advocacy in Special Education. We are committed in helping our Staff
and Families reaching their achievements with in MCPS.
Please find information attached to this newsletter regarding the MCCPTA Special Education Committee as
well as a membership form for the Matsunaga/Longview PTA. We hope you find this information helpful.
Your involvement is how our PTA stays strong and is able to help support our kids’ achievements. You
can truly make a difference! I welcome your feedback, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you
have any questions or comments. Thank you and have a great year!
