ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CALENDAR CROSS-DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE NON-THREE SEMESTER HOUR COURSE WAIVER FORM As outlined in the RIT Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Program Framework1, programs may require a limited number of non-three semester hour courses provided that the underlying principles of the 5x3 calendar model are upheld. The Provost has asked the Calendar Cross Disciplinary Committee to review all requests from programs to require non-three semester hour courses. For the purpose of this review, courses have been classified as Service Courses and Program Specific Courses. A Service Course is defined as a course offered by any academic unit and is required by students in one or more other academic unit(s). These courses may also be required by students in the academic unit offering the course. Examples of courses in this category would be Physics, Calculus, Computer Science, Foreign Languages, etc. Of particular concern during this review is the adherence to the 5x3 predominate model. All non-three credit hour service courses must be submitted for review. Please complete and submit Section A of this form to request permission to require any non-three credit hour service course. For requests involving multiple courses in a course sequence, you need only complete one form. A Program Specific Course is defined as a course offered by an academic unit and is required only by students in a program, or programs, offered by that academic unit. Only Programs that are requesting an exception to the any of the following program framework parameters need to submit non-three semester hour courses for review. a minimum of 40 courses where there is a minimum of 32, 3 credit hour courses and a maximum of 8, 4 credit hour courses; and an expected semester load of 15 or 16 credit hours with the understanding that some programs may find it necessary to occasionally extend this upper limit to 17 credit hours. Please complete and submit Section B of this form to request permission to offer any non-three credit hour program specific courses.
