3 key points I can take away from today’s meeting: Something that is still circling around in my head… Leadership role is way more important than I previously knew. Eastern MS didn’t have local seats. Math and English grouping decision. Expectations and understanding at MS. Differentiation being strong effort made to consider communication and engaging parents. Like the ‘factors to consider’ attachment and that this conversation will occur with AEIST’s. Are they empowered to make changes? Differentiated Math pathways Differentiated English pathways/instruction Too few seats available given ES seats. 5th graders can take 2.0 - 6 or 2.0 - 7 next year More ES Magnet seats than MS English can be done several different ways in MS. Parents on SITs Math is still an articulation issue. Heterogeneous grouping – still hard! AEI Feedback Council is supporting better communication with all stakeholders. Better understanding of MS Math courses. Information about AEIST positions Number of seats in CPHG vs. MS Magnets How many students of color are identified as GT and then made sure to apply to the GT centers? Getting local seats at Eastern would be a great way to add students of color into magnet programs. How can students of color/socio econ disadvantage be nurtured in the school to maintain GT status throughout ES and then apply to MS magnets? Parent participation in SIT. Consistency in information communicated from CESC to schools and parents. How does special education support for MS Advanced English vary depending on English for all English? For some? What happened to Advanced Science? What does an inclusion Advanced English class look like? Can we see how ES gifted students matriculate to MS Magnets, to HS Magnets? Do we simply move the same group? Middle School English levels/programming need to be clarified with parents. Communication between Carver and Principals. How do local children get needs met? How can we be more transparent about Math/English programming for students? Other Comments: Great job! Very well organized. Great information in response to past questions.
