Minutes – A & P Council

Media / Website Update
Hoa reported that the website will be ready to highlight at the A&P constituency meeting. She requested
that anyone who has not yet submitted a photo, to have one taken by Joe Davis as soon as possible or
forward a photo.
By-Laws Update
Karen distributed copies of the new by-laws. In the Spring of 2010, the Council approved the following
change under Council Officers: Following each election, at the first meeting that includes newly elected
members, a Chair will be selected by a simple majority vote among the five elected members. The council
will then designate a member to be Secretary. Previously, the Chair was chosen based on the total
number of votes received by the membership. The Council reviewed other components of the by-laws
and discovered that a possible revision is needed in the Council Membership section. Discussion was
tabled for the next Council Meeting.
Other Items:
 University Planning and Budget Council: A task force, comprised of chairs of the constituency
groups interviewed and selected Marcelo Sztainberg as Chair.
 Pre-University Council: Civil Service, faculty, and our A&P co-chairs attended this meeting to
discuss the Ken Anderson report and talk about common concerns.
 Liaison: Dr. Ross has agreed to be the liaison for the Council. Michelle and Barbara will meet with
him on Tuesday 11/1 to go over the Council’s budget request. Karen suggested adding a budget
line (approximately $200-$300 per award) for A&P professional development grants.
 Educational Leave Application: Michelle and Barbara will meet 11/1 to discuss the application
that was received. A&P Council must provide its recommendation by 12/9.
 Social and Constituency Event: In reviewing the by-laws it was discovered that constituents must
meet each semester. Therefore, the date selected (January 23rd) may need to be moved to
November / December. The Council decided that given the short time frame, we would capitalize
on the 11/18 Thanksgiving social and combine the events. The agenda was discussed and will
highlight the new website. Barbara will check on rooms and Karen will have the flier updated.
