NEIU A&P Council 20151103 Minutes Present: M Groth, D Lawson, B Miltcheva , A Vidal-Rodriguez, T Tobin Absent: E Guerrero, M Genao-Homs Approval of previous A&P Council minutes B Miltcheva motions, D Lawson seconded. Minutes approved Ongoing Project: A&P Employee Sick Bank Project on hold, due to staffing/health issue in HR – D Lawson will wait until after Thanksgiving break to follow up Ongoing Project: Pot Luck Date change to 11/20/15 – M Groth suggested a change as many seem to be taking off the week of Thanksgiving Room finalized to LIB 310, T Tobin to secure space o D Lawson spoke with Campus Rec, and they felt there space was too large for the event, and they wouldn’t have proper staffing to setup/cleanup. o M Groth asked SUECS if a potluck is possible in the SU, however, due to upcoming changes in procedure/policy, the department is trying to curtail them and therefore would not like the event to occur in the Student Union B Miltcheva to create a Google form to help manage who is bringing what to the pot luck. It will also serve as a rough guide for attendance. Form to be shared among members of the council. o The members of the A&P Council will bring: Lawson – plates, cutlery, etc. Miltcheva – Chili Tobin – will purchase sandwich platter Vidal-Rodriguez – side dish, TBD Groth - cookies The targeted announcement will go out on 11/4/15 Activities o Discussed options, along the lines of something to engage attendees M Groth to bring Jenga (as long as our department still has a functioning set), B Miltcheva will serve as backup. The goal is to have something simple to do to engage, yet not be too much of a time commitment. o Ended up simplifying the event, D Lawson will speak for approx. 5 minutes to introduce members of the council and discuss briefly the role of the A&P Council. After, members will mingle with attendees. o Introduced the idea of “Introduction Stations” – attendees will be given something to direct them to a group to sit with, and will be encouraged to engage in conversation with group. Discussion will be driven by questions provided by A Vidal-Rodriguez to “spark” conversation (questions to be shared with the group no later than November 16 th). o Name tags will be provided by D Lawson (“Hello, my name is”), and identifying ribbons to be provided by T Tobin that denote council members Old Business Contact list for new hires, listing resources to help navigate certain areas (Controllers office, Purchasing, etc) o M Groth has started discussions with individuals to serve as resources for our list Work/Life balance o M Groth spoke with Brad Ginn (Ombuds), offered to meet with M Groth to discuss some potential topics o Discussed this in more depth, and decided to try to shoot for something in March of next year Possibly have workshops centered on salary negotiation, upward mobility in the workplace, and other career strategies for A&P members.
