COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course is an adjunct to NURS 230. It provides instruction about specific obstetric nursing skills, as well
as an opportunity for individual practice of those skills in the nursing skills laboratory. Not repeatable.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Discuss the steps necessary for safe performance of selected obstetric nursing procedures:
a) Initial newborn birth
b) Relaxation with focused breathing
c) Catheterization of women in the maternity area
d) Neonatal capillary blood sampling
e) Non-stress Testing and Amniocentesis
2. Demonstrate proficiency in the maternity nursing skills in the laboratory setting.
