* Studio classes in the Art Department involve elaborate setup, clean up, and environmental and mechanical safety issues. This takes
instructional time from the beginning and end of each class session. For that reason it is Art Department’s policy that we meet four
hours, rather than three hours, for one unit of credit.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an entry-level class in jewelry making that introduces concepts and skills in jewelry design,
jewelry construction and fabrication, and presentation, marketing, and sales. Students will learn and utilize
various technologies involved in the jewelry making process. This class is designed for students who have little
or no experience in jewelry making.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate basic knowledge of jewelry design
Identify the characteristics of various metals used for jewelry fabrication.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of construction / fabrication of jewelry
Distinguish between various methods of jewelry design and fabrication.
Demonstrate basic knowledge in presentation, marketing, and sales of jewelry.
COURSE CONTENT:
Introduction to jewelry design.
Introduction to jewelry construction and fabrication methods
Introduction to design concepts, and the development of students’ personal aesthetic.
Safe use of materials, studio and tools.
Introduction to concepts of presentation, marketing, and sales of jewelry
