Evidence collections practicum COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course will benefit young adults 14-19 who are interested in a career in Criminal Justice. The course will explain the functions of a police department and its relationship to the Criminal Justice system. The course will examine community involved policing and general practices. This is a career planning and prep tech bridge course primarily for high school students and recent high school graduates who are interested in or are currently in positions as police explorers, police cadets, police aids and community service officers in local police departments. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Design a career plan for employment in the field of criminal justice. Explain how a police department is organized and how its different bureaus operate. Apply defensive tactic techniques employed by police departments. Apply evidence collections skills to the processing of a crime scene. Develop an introductory overview of various police practices and an over view of the Criminal Justice System. INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Explain the organizational structure of police departments and how they work. Each student will understand the basic requirements and selection process for Law Enforcement Officers. Students will be exposed to Police related scenario exercises.
