Charge for the International Education Working Group
March 2010
Preparing students for success in a global society is explicit in RIT’s vision, and the university
has been successful in attracting and enrolling students from abroad. In addition, over the past
decade the university has made significant progress in building an international network of
campuses, educational alliances, and research partnerships in support of its vision. Despite this
success, there remain many opportunities to further enrich and expand the international
experiences available to our students, faculty, and staff. Opportunities exist to broaden and
creatively develop new study abroad programs; to leverage our partnerships and campuses
abroad; to enrich international dimensions of our curriculum; to foster international cooperative
education programs; and, to develop international service learning, research, and outreach
projects.
In an effort to support the continued advancement of international education, the Provost has
established a cross-divisional intercollegiate International Education Working Group. The
general goals of this working group are:
1. To ensure communication across the divisions and among the units engaged in

International Education Committee and the Global Delivery Corporation on issues related
to academic programming, policy, and assessment of international education.
To provide functional support for international education initiatives of the Provost; the
International Education Committee and the Global Delivery Corporation.
To advise and support divisions of the university in the dissemination of RIT’s
accomplishments and leadership in international education.
To further the development of on-campus international education opportunities for
students and faculty.
The Working Group’s specific charge for 2010 is:
1. To propose a business plan for Study Abroad and make specific recommendations
regarding:
a. Models and policies for funding and management of RIT faculty led and affiliated
programs;
b. How to optimally utilize RIT’s global campuses and partnerships to support the
development of faculty led programming;
c. Strategies for attaining the goals for study abroad participation set out by the
Board of Trustees
2. Recommend student learning outcomes related to international education. These
recommendations should give consideration to the global experiences, outcomes, and
capabilities that will distinguish RIT students from their peers at other institutions.
3. Draft a fifteen year “road map” for the expansion of international education at RIT.
4. Elicit participation of additional members to ensure adequate representation across each
of the colleges and among students.
5. To assist, where possible, with the support of our global campuses in Dubai, Croatia, and
Kosovo.
6. To assist, where possible, with the development of new space in Global Village dedicated
to serving the international educational needs of the students, faculty and staff at RIT.
