Main purpose of the job:

To undertake specified teaching and learning activities within the Professional
Studies faculty
 To provide high quality learning experiences responsive to learners needs
 To support students in developing knowledge and skills, behaviours and attitudes
which enable effective learning
 To enable and promote high success, attendance, retention and value added rates
 To act as Course Co-ordinator for particular programmes as may be required and
designated from time to time, under the direction and with the support of the
Curriculum Leader
 To co-ordinate and direct the work of staff assigned to the designated programme(s),
providing high quality support, information and guidance

Key Responsibilities:
These will normally include, but may not be limited to, the following:
1.
Plan effectively for course delivery







Ensure programmes are approved and meet national standards
Ensure actions and recommendations within EV reports are incorporated into
planning
Ensure there is an effective scheme of work which is used by course team to inform
lesson planning
Provide a student handbook which outlines course requirements, expectations of
students, scheme of work, assessment schedule and other pertinent information
Implement appropriate induction programme which recognises the transition period
of students and is effective in providing appropriate support, guidance, knowledge
and skills
Coordinate the preparation and selection of suitable course materials to enable
sharing of good practice and to develop a culture of building a shared legacy
Work with budget holder to ensure optimum resourcing

Ensure there is an appropriate schedule of assessment, both formative and
summative, which is used by the course team and shared with students
Ensure assessment tasks are fair and valid
Ensure actions and recommendations within EV reports are incorporated into
planning
Ensure appropriate systems for standardising, moderating, internally verifying and
quality of learners’ coursework are in place and consistently applied
Check accuracy of all achievement claims submitted to awarding body
Oversee preparation of sample of internally assessed work and/or prepare for EV
visit
Work with course team to monitor progress of groups





Maintain records of assessment grades for all teaching groups
Regularly use college systems and team records to monitor attendance, retention,
assessment grades, progress against targets, including value-added
Evaluate progress of groups with course team, recognise good performance,
supporting appropriate action to enable improvement
Identify ‘at risk’ or under-performing students, investigate contributory issues and
support course team in addressing these and taking appropriate action
Work with course team to ensure quality assurance



Disseminate findings of QIP report to course team, acknowledging strengths and
areas for development, supporting engagement with actions and monitoring of
progress
Lead course team in review of course in Level 1 SAR, supporting awareness of
analysis of strengths and weaknesses, action plan and targets for the following year
Deliver lessons and use on-course assessment effectively










Provide a clear introduction at the start of a lesson and set out learning objectives
and expectations, re-capping at the end
Deliver lessons at a suitable pact and actively involve students
Check on learning at intervals throughout lessons
Exhibit commitment to safe working practices, and be aware of and responsive to
health and safety requirements
Ensure theory and practice are integrated as appropriate
Assess learners’ progress regularly both in the classroom and for homework and
provide regular feedback
Use assessment tasks appropriate to the course and maintain accurate records
Ensure assessment is consistent, fair, accurate and valid and comply with awarding
body requirements
Identify ‘at risk’ or under-performing students and work with individuals and Personal
Tutors as required.
Act as a link and expert for specific qualification


Keep up to date with awarding body requirements, documents and guidance
Ensure all members of the course team have access to and are familiar with:
