The past perfect is used to indicate a situation
that existed or an event that occurred prior
to a time in the past
.
• e.g.
1.Maria hadn’t spoken English before last
year.
2.I hadn’t begun to take my bath when the
phone rang.
3.The students had finished their homework
by the time the teacher came.
