Pre-AP courses are available to any students willing
to take on the academic challenges. These courses are
on-grade level academically advanced classes
designed to challenge motivated students to
understand rigorous content. The coursework
requires students to engage in independent and
analytical assignments and to complete a substantial
amount of work outside of class. A counselor/teacher
recommendation is strongly encouraged based on
grades, benchmarks, and previous STAAR scores.
Pre-AP courses for 6th grade: English, Reading, and Math
 Student and Parent must sign the Pre-AP course agreement form
on the back of the course selection card.
 The exit point for Pre-AP course is either at the end of the first three
weeks or at the end of the nine-week grading period. If these exit
points are missed, then the student will remain in the course for the
remainder of the semester. A teacher-parent conference is required
and teacher must submit Add/Drop form to counselor for a
schedule change to be placed in a regular class.
 *Students must qualify through district testing for Gifted & Talented
Program. The GT classes offered are Math and English. Student must
meet screening criteria: commended performance on STAAR and referring
teacher must submit a Nomination Form to alpha counselor. A parent can
also request a nomination.
