ANIMATIC

• ANIMATIC,........is a series of still images edited together and
displayed in sequence. More commonly, a rough dialogue and/or rough
sound track is added to the sequence of still images (usually taken from
a storyboard) to test whether the sound and images are working
effectively together.

videotape of the frames of a storyboard is produced along with an audio
soundtrack.

sequences. It consists of artwork shot on film or videotape and edited to
serve as an on-screen

look. An animatic is simply the storyboard images edited together into a
movie that includes the characters speaking and simple camera moves
(zooms and pans).

What is an animatic?

An animatic is the storyboards turned into a movie. You combine the music, the dialog and the
storyboards to create a rough version of the final movie.
Why an animatic?
•
The animatic (the movie of the storyboards) has one major purpose. This animatic will show you if this
movie will be successful or not. That is why this step is so important.
Why create an animatic?
•
Even though you have completed the thumbnail storyboards, you still do not know the timing, pace, and
rhythm of the story.
