River Oaks Elementary School Wednesday, May 6, 2015 SDMC Minutes The meeting was called to order at 3:31 PM. Attendance was as follows: Members Present Bomersbach, Jana Bomersbach, Joel Curtin, John Fisackerly, Megan Fovargue, Keri Nazaro, Beth Smith, Josephine Minutes from February 2015 were reviewed and approved unanimously. Next, Dr. Fovargue reviewed the waivers that were voted on and sent via email on April 23, 2015. The SDMC unanimously approved all waivers and the waiver document was forwarded to the HISD Waiver Oversight Committee for approval for the 2015-2016 school year on May 1, 2015. As a reminder, the waivers are as follows: #2 All Schools- Faculty Advisory Council Waiver: River Oaks Elementary has an SDMC that takes the place of the FAC. This has been in place for several years at ROE, and the committee voted to keep the SDMC in lieu of two separate committees. #10 All Schools- Exemption from Following HISD Curriculum Waiver: As a Vanguard Magnet school, ROE is given the autonomy to differentiate curriculum through this waiver. The committee agreed to continue to support this waiver to provide the most rigorous instruction for Vanguard students as well as implement the International Baccalaureate framework rather than follow the scope and sequence of the district which requires benchmark testing. #12a-All Schools- Altered Student Instructional Day (Once a Week): The committee voted to keep the early dismissal on Wednesday afternoons for Professional Development for teachers. Thirdly, the Professional Development Plan for August was presented by Dr. Fovargue. The plan was as follows: Week One: Teacher Workday: August 10, 2015 District Trainer of Trainer Days/HUB: August 11, 12, 2015 District IB Collaboration Days: August 13, 14, 2015 Week Two: Everyday Math Training/Technology: August 17, 18, 2015 Team Planning/Curriculum: August 19, 20, 2015 Meet & Greet: August 20, 2015 Individual Planning: August 21, 2015 A motion was made to approve the plan by J. Smith and Jana Bomersbach seconded the motion. The committee unanimously approved the PD plans for August 2015. Next, Dr. Fovargue presented a projected Budget & Enrollment plan for the 2015-2016 school year. On April 22, 2015, Dr. Fovargue submitted the following response to the first survey: Keep the formal appraisal period as is: The formal appraisal period begins three weeks after the first day of school on or about September 14, 2015 based on no preference indicated by the SDMC members. Information based on the second survey was sent to SDMC members electronically and a hard copy was provided at the meeting. This survey allowed all SDMC members in HISD to submit feedback to the district. Lastly, Dr. Fovargue reviewed the requirements for SDMC meetings (meet monthly) for the 2015-2016 school year. A motion was made by the committee to meet in person quarterly and conduct electronic meetings during the other months. B. Nazaro made a motion to accept the proposal and J. Smith seconded the motion. The committee unanimously approved the meeting dates and times for the 2015-2016 school year. After Dr. Fovargue thanked the committee for their participation and ongoing support for the 2014-2015 school year, M. Fisackerly made a motion to adjourn the meeting. B. Nazaro seconded the motion, the committee agreed, and the meeting adjourned at 4:12 PM.
