Writing Strategies
CLASS CONTENT
1. Review your notes from our class brainstorm about the course content you
have learned this quarter (and also review the evaluation sheets). Identity
the 1-3 most valuable skills you have learned this quarter that have benefited
your individual writing/reading/thinking process.
2. Turn your ideas into a PIE Paragraph.
3. Point in PIE Example: Although I’ve learned a lot of useful skills this quarter,
understanding process writing and quote sandwiches has been the most
valuable to my success as a writer.
METAPHOR
Part 1:
BRAINSTORM: how would you describe your individual writing process?
Part 2:
Think of a METAPHOR that reflects your writing process. For example: My writing is
scattered like leaves in the fall, but learning how to brainstorm and write PIE
paragraphs has become my rake.
Part 3:
Develop your ideas into a PIE Paragraph that uses a METAPHOR to describe your
individual writing process.

Past: Describe your writing process and abilities before this class.
Present: Describe your individual strengths and current process as a writer.
Future: Identify your writing goals for next quarter and beyond .
