Bellarmine University Staff Council
October 25, 2004 Abell Board Room 3 p.m.
Present: Pat Allen, Lucy Burns, Jared Burton, Shannon Delaney, Debi Griffin, Mary Harper,
Derick Hill, Sarah Justice, Dave Kline, Linda Lally, Cheryl Lewars, Cheryl Love, Leslie MaxieAshford, Sheila Pitts, Laura Richardson, Leigh Sherrill, Marilyn Staples, Joyce Stephenson,

1. Welcome. President McGowan opened our meeting with an official welcome to the staff
council. In summary, he asked the staff council to advise him on staff issues, provide a political
voice for staff members, create coherence, and increase morale and productivity. Dr. McGowan
thanked us for our service.
2. Introduction of Staff Council Members. Council members introduced themselves.
3. Discussion of Staff Council Governance/bylaws. Lynn Bynum passed out a list of
Suggested Bylaws/Provisions and facilitated a discussion of the list.
4. Election of Officers. A Coordinating Committee of seven representatives was elected.

It was agreed that the Coordinating Committee will meet later this week.
5. Committee Assignments. Each council member signed up to serve on two committees.
The committees are:
 Staff Development
 Employment Affairs – benefits, compensation, and recognition
 Communications
 Social and Community Activities
 Nominations/Elections/Bylaws
Debi will email each committee a list of members. It was agreed that each committee will meet as
soon as possible to nominate a committee chair and discuss pertinent issues. The committee
meetings will take place before the next staff council meeting.
6. Future Meeting Dates and Agenda. It was suggested that we meet every other month for a
total of 6 times per year. Lucy will check the President’s schedule for available dates and report
back to the Coordinating Committee. Suggested time is 2:00 p.m.
7. A suggestion that we adopt Roberts Rules of Order was referred to the bylaws committee.
