Go back into STAT EDIT and your values in L1 will be in order smallest to largest 2 How to Generate Random Numbers TI83/TI84 A. If you want random counting numbers 1. Press MATH (MATH is below the green key) 2. Arrow over to PRB 3. Arrow down to 5. randInt( Then press ENTER. 4. After the parentheses, enter: lowest value , highest value ). Your screen should say randInt(#,#). Press ENTER. Your screen will display a random counting number. To get additional random numbers, just press ENTER. Each time you do this you will get another random number. B. If you want random decimal numbers 1. Press MATH (MATH is below the green key) 2. Arrow over to PRB 3. Each time you do this you will get another random number. 3 Chapter 2 Entering Data and Graphing a Histogram 1. Enter your data in L1 and L2 a. Press the STAT key. Then press ENTER to select 1: Edit b. If needed, clear any old data from L1 and L2. To do this, use the up arrow to highlight L1. Press the CLEAR key and then press enter. Arrow over to L2 and repeat the instructions to clear L2. c. To enter your data, begin at the top of L1. Enter each data value followed by ENTER. When you have finished with L1, press > to go to L2. Enter the frequencies into L2 as you did for L1. When done, press 2nd QUIT. 2. Set up your plot: (One time only) nd Press 2 STATPLOT Select PLOT1 by pressing ENTER. Press ENTER to turn on PLOT1. Arrow down to the next line. For Type, arrow over to the Histogram icon on the first line. Press ENTER. Arrow down. After Xlist Name, select L1. After Freq, enter L2. (If you have only entered data in L1, you can enter ALPHA 1 after Freq instead. This tells the calculator that you have entered individual values) Press 2nd QUIT 3. Set up your window: Check Y= to make sure that there are no functions entered. PLOT1 should be selected. Go into WINDOW. Set xMin = (where first bar starts) xMax = (where last bar ends) xScl = (width of each bar) yMin = 0 (Bottom of the bars) yMax = (height of tallest bar) yScl = (Tick mark spacing on y-axis) xRes = 1 (Always) 4. To graph your histogram: Press the GRAPH key. You will see your histogram. Quick Histogram for unordered data 1. Enter data as in step 1 above 2. Check Y= and make sure PLOT1 is selected. 3. Press the ZOOM key. Arrow down to 9: ZoomStat. Press ENTER The calculator will determine the best window to see your histogram. It will not be perfect – there may be spaces between the bars. But you can get a quick idea of the shape of the data. 4 Graphing a Boxplot on the TI83/84 3. Enter your data and frequencies in L1 and L2 4. Set up your plot: (One time only) nd Press 2 STATPLOT Turn off PLOT1 by selecting PLOT1, arrow over to OFF, and press ENTER. Then press 2nd STATPLOT again. Select PLOT2 by arrowing down to 2. Press ENTER to turn on PLOT2. Arrow down to the next line. For Type, use the left arrow to select the middle boxplot on the second line. Press ENTER. Arrow down. After Xlist Name, select L1. Read the value at the bottom left of the screen. 5 How to Calculate One-Variable Statistics TI83/84 1. Enter data into L1 and L2. Press 2nd QUIT so that you are at the Home Screen. 2. Press STAT. Then arrow over to CALC, then press ENTER for 1:1 - Variable Stats. You will see on your screen “1-Var Stats”. 3. Press 2nd L1, followed by a comma (above the 7 key), followed by 2nd L2. 4. Press ENTER. You will see a list of several one-variable statistics. 5. x is the population standard deviation and should be used only if the data you entered is the entire population. 6 Chapter 12 Linear Regression TI 83/84 Scatterplots To enter your data. 1. Press STAT followed by 1. 2. If needed, clear any old data from L1 and L2 3. Enter your data. Enter the values of the independent variable in L1 and the values of the dependent variable in L2. You should see a picture of a scatterplot. It is the first icon. Press ENTER. Down arrow. For XLIST, press 2nd L1. Down arrow. For YLIST, press 2nd L2. Down arrow. Select the type of mark you want to use for your scatterplot. The small box is the most visible. When done, press ENTER. 2. Press ZOOM and then 9. You will see your scatterplot. The Regression Line To Calculate the regression line. Press QUIT until you are in the home screen. 1. Press STAT and arrow over to CALC. 2. Press 8: LinReg (a+bx). Do not use #4. It is different! After the parentheses, enter the list names that you entered your data into. For example, if you entered data into L1, L2, and L3, you will enter L1, L2, L3). Reach the test statistic and the p-value for your test: The test statistic is the first number given after F= The p-value is the second number given after p = The df for the numerator is given after FACTOR.
