Resources for Faculty How Faculty Can Support Student Integrity Below are some suggestions for fostering student integrity in and out of the classroom General Suggestions Include clear language in the syllabus about the penalties for academic dishonesty, both academic and administrative Integrate lessons into the course on the proper use of sources (see resources elsewhere on this page) Modify assignments each time the course is taught Require students to read and sign a statement that they understand and will abide by the University and/or course academic standards policy. Require students to turn in assignments through SafeAssign on WebCampus. Preventing Plagiarism on Papers Encourage or require students to attend conferences during office hours to discuss paper topics Require students to submit a bibliography, outline, and/or draft before the final paper is due Design “one-of-a-kind” paper topics to discourage students from obtaining “generic” papers from other sources Preventing Cheating on Exams Require that all textbooks, notes, paper, etc., be stored under the student's seat during the test Require seating arrangements that provide empty desks between all test-takers Prohibit students from leaving the classroom during exams or prohibit unsupervised trips outside of the class, such as to the restroom. Distribute multiple versions of exams Carefully proctor exams, walking around the classroom while exams are being written.
