International Political Economy Ph.D Comprehensive Exam Guidelines Professors Daniel Drezner (Field Coordinator) Katrina Burgess The core of the substantive areas covered in the international political economy field exam are defined by the range of topics covered in P217 (Global Political Economy) and P219 (Political Economy of Development) The core list of readings is the entire current syllabus for those courses, including all supplementary and suggested readings. In addition, students should choose a regional subfield (to be discussed with the field coordinator). Students planning to take the exam should confer with the field coordinator 5-6 months in advance of the exam to confirm details. The exam is 7.5 hours long and consists of 1) two long-answer questions, from which the student choses one to write on for about four hours, and 2) four shorter-answer questions from which the student chooses two to write on for about two hours each. It is closed book and computers may be used for writing only (no Internet use). Sample questions from past exams are available in the Registrar's office. 12-1-2015
