SDMC Meeting Minutes
Thursday, January 21, 2016
(Meeting called to order at 3:40 p.m., adjourned at 4:26 p.m.)
Members Present
Delesa Thomas, Principal
Tabitha Davis, Dean of Students
Gabriela Pulido, Dean of Students
Joan Jones, Counselor
Phyllicia Moore, CTE Teacher
Bina Singh, Science Department Chairperson
Nelva Williamson, Social Studies Department Chairperson
Philip Caggiano, Science Teacher
 Ms. Williamson moves that we accept the minutes from the last meeting, as printed.
The members agreed.
 The CTE Department asked if we could enhance our CTE program by offering Health
Science. We were told by a district representative that adding Health Science to our
course offerings would negatively impact other campuses in this community. Baylor
College of Medicine Middle School and DeBakey High School for Health Professions are
very nearby and offer the Health Science programs. We cannot be all things to all
people. Students have the ability to participate in extra-curricular offerings for various
specializations at their home schools and other organizations in the community. The
Biomedical Sciences / Biomedical Engineering program would be lead by Ms. Dunklin, if
added to our course offerings. Baylor and DeBakey have higher matrix scores for Magnet
admission. We have increased our matrix score to 80 for incoming students. We will
survey the current 8th & 9th graders to see what their academic interests are before
deciding whether or not to offer the courses.
 Career Day is scheduled to take a full school day (early dismissal day). This will be the
last time it is done in this manner.
 STEM Acceleration Program (Summer 2016). Sixth and seventh grade students will test
to be placed in Algebra I and Biology during the 7th and 8th grades, respectively. Students
will attend Math & Science Institute/Workshop during the summer to prepare for the
increased rigor next school year.
