North Houston Early College High School 99 Lyerly St Houston TX 77022 Rt. 8 Office: (713)696-6168 Fax: (713)-696-6171 Angela Lundy-Jackson, Principal TEA Exemplary School, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Dear Parents and Students, It is my pleasure to welcome you to our new website and to North Houston Early College High School. As you navigate through the site, you will find information on our instructors, pictures of our activities, and forms and documents you may need to make application and request information from our school. As we embark upon this school year, we are looking forward to even greater experiences than we had last year. This year's classes look extremely promising. I am sure we have future lawyers, doctors, educators, and entrepreneurs in our ranks just bursting with enthusiasm and looking forward to becoming productive citizens of Houston and the world. Although our focus remains academic achievement, our staff has put together awesome clubs, activities and competitive groups which help to make our students well-rounded. We are continuing with our Advocacy and Club Time programs which are designed to provide guidance and to ensure success for high school and college students. In addition, we are working one-on-one with our senior class assisting them in decision-making for their college classes and designing tailor-made programs to ensure we meet the academic needs of each student individually. We have forged a strong relationship with our partner college (HCC) and we are proud of the number of students who have already received their associate’s degrees and those who are in line to do so this year. I am delighted to continue to serve as the principal of such a fine institution and a great group of young people. I appreciate the commitment of the students of NHECHS as they matriculate through such a rigorous program of studies while enjoying the experiences of youth. We have maintained our excellent Texas Education Agency rating. Although the label has changed, the results are the same. We now have a rating of Met Standard which is the highest rating a school can attain. I applaud the superior work, dedication, and commitment of teachers, students, parents, and the administration who continue to make it happen. As we continue our mission of ensuring first generation college students are afforded an opportunity to attend college, we also want to ensure each student receives a caring and highly effective teacher in every classroom, and rigorous instructional standards daily as we maintain a culture of high expectations. We want to ensure that every student leaves this school at the culmination of his/her senior year with an acceptance letter to a four-year university as well as a scholarship. To that end, we solicit and invite the active participation of our parents and community partners. We will have a series of parent sessions and conferences to ensure every student is successful and graduates with both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree. With great sacrifice comes great reward. It is with great pride that we continue our work at NHECHS. We look forward to the continued growth of the EC program and to the excitement of another school year. Sincerely, Angela Lundy-Jackson, Principal
