Purchase for Novell GroupWise and NetWare to
Microsoft Technology Migration
ISSUE
Board of Trustee approval is required for all requisitions for $150,000 or above.
BACKGROUND
UVU is embarking on a migration away from Novell GroupWise and NetWare to
Microsoft technology of Exchange, Outlook, and file storage. This project requires
servers and other hardware for the infrastructure for this technology. In addition, there
are software purchases and solutions needed for the migration as well as consulting
services. UVU will release an RFP for the needs of migration to pick vendors that can
provide the various solutions.
The budget for these parts of the project is $400,000, which include hardware purchases,
software purchases and consulting services need for the migration. Although these may
be done in separate purchases from separate vendors, each piece is anticipated to exceed
the $150,000 limit.
RECOMMENDATION
UVU administration recommends that the Board of Trustees approve the purchases
needed for the migration from Novell GroupWise and network storage to Microsoft
technology, with the major purchase costs totaling $400,000.
