Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education oversees undergraduate education programs, including undergraduate international programs, and initiates instructional policies in the areas of Core Curriculum and the Honors Program for the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The position oversees the University’s curriculum approval processes and ensures that all instructional programs have periodic program reviews. The individual reports to and advises the Executive Vice President and Provost on the best use of resources to meet priority needs of undergraduate education. The Vice Provost is responsible for the development of clear and consistent instructional policies, implementation of the policies in academic units, and addressing issues related to instructional policies. As the institution’s representative and liaison with the State of Nevada K-16 schools and the academic representative to Student Services, the Vice Provost promotes the instructional mission of the institution. The position also serves as the institution’s academic liaison officer to the regional accrediting association. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education acts independently to support the University’s undergraduate curriculum by directing and participating in many activities related to its continuous review and improvement. General objectives and priorities are established by the President and Provost. The Vice Provost’s activities focus on furthering these objectives and priorities by gaining the support and cooperation of the university’s colleges, departments, and units. In addition, the Vice Provost independently works with external groups and entities related to K-16 education, bringing back information and ideas that will inform the administration for the university’s planning and priorities and serving as a liaison between the various departments and programs to these external groups. Impact: The activities performed by the Vice Provost greatly affect the quality and breadth of undergraduate students’ academic experience. Faculty and staff rely on information provided by the Vice Provost to propose instructional and curricular changes, so that students have the benefit of up-to-date curriculum and instruction in an expedient manner. Data, analyses, and explanations provided by the Vice Provost in response to requests from external groups and entities have great potential to impact future legislation and programs related to K-16 education in the state of Nevada. 4.
