1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Specialist, Digital Photographic Production, supports faculty and administrative staff in the design
and production of digital imaging products supporting the University’s core missions of instruction,
research, and outreach. Materials generated will be incorporated into web sites, print publications
including Nevada Silver & Blue, and research and classroom teaching materials. This position reports
to the Media Production and Design Manager, Teaching and Learning Technologies.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage
first with heading and then bulleted information).
50% - Digital imaging products Production
 Works with students, faculty, and staff to determine the appropriate utilization of digital
photography to fulfill instructional or outreach goals
 Assists faculty and administrative clients with photographic needs for use in books,
magazines, brochures, newsletters and other publications
 Develops and produces support materials for grant and funding proposals
 Produces component elements for interactive projects such as web-based materials
 Photographs events for documentation purposes
 Provides location and studio portraiture
 Supports faculty utilizing classroom presentation technology as it relates to digital imaging
 Provides training for faculty and students on camera use and digital imaging production
 Supplies images to the campus’ digital image archive; helps to coordinate other campus
efforts in maintaining and enlarging this resource
40% - Digital Imaging Services for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Division
 Photographs defined events, locations, university activities, and people that illustrate to the
larger community the essence of the institution
 Supports the imaging needs for the publication, Nevada Silver & Blue, including cover and
interior art as assigned either by the Nevada Silver & Blue editorial staff or other members of
the campus community responsible for magazine content (for example, School of Medicine,
Communications). Nevada Silver & Blue incorporates a broad range of photographic styles,
including studio, location, portrait, environmental portrait, head and shoulders, campus scenes
and other types of images
 Additional photography for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations as assigned by
members of the various departments within this division
 Contacts subjects as necessary to arrange photography sessions
 Provides caption information that includes: accurately spelled names of subjects, name of
event if applicable, and date and location of photographs
10% - Assist other Teaching and Learning Technologies Digital Media Production Activities
 Digital image manipulation and printing
 Digital video location and studio shooting
 Digital video postproduction and distribution activities
 Hiring and supervision of student assistants
 Procures and inventories necessary equipment and supplies
 Maintains studio and location photographic equipment

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
The Specialist has the authority and responsibility to make production decisions related to digital
imaging products. Composition, appropriate lighting, and production methodologies, for example, are
decisions that have great impact on the success and ultimate effectiveness of an imaging project.
These decisions have a direct impact on the University’s image as well, while affecting the perception
and credibility of Teaching and Learning Technologies.
4. Describe the knowledge, skills (to include cognitive requirement and verbal and written
communication), and abilities (to include task complexity, problem solving, creativity and
innovation) essential to successful performance of this job (in bullet format).
Knowledge of:
 Instructional design principles
 Various instructional technologies
 Digital imaging creative principles
 Graphic design principles
 Traditional and digital photographic processes
 Complex design, editing, and authoring software packages
 Video production equipment (studio and field) to include multi-camera or single camera
production, audio, lighting, and editing systems
Skills:
 Oral and written communication skills including technical communication, expressive and
creative communication, visualization, and evaluations
 Use of digital imaging equipment including cameras, scanners, printers, lighting, and storage
devices
 Proficiency with imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop
Ability to:
 Set priorities which accurately reflect the importance of job responsibilities

 Operate computers applicable to digital imaging
