1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the Program Specialist, Student Conduct, investigates and
adjudicates reported violations of the campus Alcohol and other Drug Policies (AOD). The incumbent
utilizes the campus sanctioning guidelines to determine the appropriate campus referral for each
student found in violation. The Program Specialist assists the Assistant Dean in investigating and
resolving additional types of cases as assigned. The Program Specialist supports the Assistant Dean
in recognizing emerging student conduct trends to develop and implement prevention and awareness
programs and assists in gathering assessment data related to student conduct programs.

60% - Investigation and Resolution of Violations
 Receive and review allegations of violations of the university’s Alcohol and other Drug Policies
and regulations
 Utilize the conduct database system to create, maintain, and close conduct files
 Facilitate a conduct conference with those students charge with an (AOD) violation
 Utilize campus sanctioning guidelines to assign appropriate intervention for those students
found responsible for a violation
 Assist in resolving additional cases of student misconduct as assigned and in advising the
Campus Student Conduct Board
 Draft charge letters
25% - Prevention Outreach
 Aid in assessing and defining emerging conduct trends arising within the campus and
surrounding community
 Assist in the development and implementation of prevention and awareness programs
designed to address the identified trends and reduce violations of the university student code
of conduct
 Develop and implement innovative presentations for New Student Orientation, Greeks,
Residence Halls, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Center for Student Cultural Diversity and other
campus departments as requested
 Utilize appropriate print, electronic and social media outlets and materials to connect and
engage with students
10% - Assessment and Evaluation
 Assist in collecting and evaluating assessment data as related to the conduct process,
awareness and prevention campaigns and presentations
 Collect assessment data for the Office of Student Conduct and the Division
5% - Professional Development
 Attend conferences and workshops to keep current with best practices and innovations within
student Conduct
 Review, research and develop new and innovative ideas for furthering the goals and
objectives for the Office of Student Conduct, Student Life Services and the Division of Student
Services

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Program Specialist works directly with students, residence hall staff, and police services in terms
of investigating and resolving violations of the Alcohol and Other Drug policies. The Program
Specialist has limited authority to adjudicate non-complex student issues. More complex cases are
referred to the Assistant Dean. who monitors discretion for mandating educational sanctions outside
of the campus designed guidelines.
Impact:
Decisions made by the Program Specialist directly impact the level of recidivism and retention for
those students involved in violations of the university’s student code of conduct. The Program
Specialist decisions can determine whether a student repeats inappropriate behavior or if the student
actually learns from the experience. Successful implementation of Outreach programs directly
impacts students committing violations of the university’s student code of conduct. Successful
accomplishment of position responsibilities supports and assists in strengthening a student’s
commitment to the University’s values and expectations, which contributes to their persistence and
timely graduation.
