1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. The Program Manager, GK-12 E-Fellowship, is responsible for developing, running, and managing
Fellow and teacher training programs related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM) subject areas and organizing and running program-related activities, including but not limited to, field trips, yearly symposiums, and fellow/teacher international travel. The individual manages activities for recruiting graduate Fellows and teachers in the local community, coordinating activities with local schools involved in the program, and organizing and coordinating fellow/teacher meetings, seminars, and training programs. The position collects program-related data and information and writes program-related reports. The position reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) on the project within the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).

35% - Program Design
Develop training program for fellows and teachers to carry out project plan of encouraging interest of students in the STEM fields of knowledge
Design the fellowship agreement to be used for Fellow contracts (pertains to maximum of 15 hours/week directly involved in GK-12 related activities plus research conducted for an annual salary)
Develop, design, and conduct seminars and the annual Symposium for Fellows and teachers
Manage and assist in the design of the E-Mobile (educational trailer) used for elementary, middle, and high school visits to encourage children to become more interested in STEM subject areas
Assist with program assessment by offering recommendations
Recommend program changes to the PI
Write policies and procedures for implementing program
35% - Program Coordination and Communication
Act as point of contact for all program related issues
Recruit graduate fellows through advertisement within the University and other sources
Coordinate a selection committee for fellowships
Manage community outreach activities to communicate program to schools and recruit local teachers through contacts with Principals of local middle and high schools
Organize and manage program-related activities and training and coordinate visits and scheduling with local schools with the E-Mobile and other student training activities
Develop articles that describe the program for public relations purposes
20% - Administration
Supervise and monitor Fellows to ensure contractual obligations are being met and consult with graduate advisors on student issues
Organize and coordinate Fellow meetings and seminars; coordinate program review meetings
Plan and organize annual Symposium for Fellows and teachers; identify content and speakers
Organize and manage annual Fellow/teacher international travel
Manage grant budget

Level of Freedom:
The Program Manager is primarily responsible for developing a training program for Fellows and local teachers to enhance and encourage children to become more interested in and pursue a career in
STEM fields of study. The incumbent makes decisions on the program procedures, in resolving issues with Fellows, in recommending program improvements, in developing the training and annual symposium. The Program Manager consults with the PI on matters which are grant related technical or program issues, program goals, budget matters and program improvements.
Impact:
The position is highly visible in the local education arena and thus negative actions or incomplete program tasks reflect directly upon the program, the PI, and the University. Appropriate interaction with elementary and high school children is of utmost importance. Program activities may have a lasting impact on the future career paths and interests of children involved in the program.
