Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Field Education Program Coordinator is one of three program coordinators in the School of Social Work (SSW) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Along with the coordinators for the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs, the Field Education Program Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership to the faculty primarily assigned to each program, identifying curriculum issues, and managing the accreditation process. The Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in integrating field curriculum into the BSW and MSW programs, recruitment, selection, and training of community field instructors, and placement of BSW and MSW students in field sites. The incumbent is responsible for Agency-School contract negotiations, building strong, positive relationships between SSW and professional social workers and community agencies, database maintenance, and representing the SSW in all matters pertaining to field education. The Coordinator is also responsible for serving on graduate comprehensive examination committees, assisting with recruitment and admissions of undergraduate and graduate students, and serving as a faculty liaison/field seminar leader. The position reports directly to the Director of SSW. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The Coordinator is responsible for interpreting the BSW and MSW curricula to area social service providers in order to recruit and develop placement sites and field instructors. In addition, BSW and MSW students, after orientation and application process, including personal interviews conducted by the Coordinator, are matched to appropriate placement sites. The Coordinator is also responsible for integrating field content within the MSW and BSW curricula. The individual works closely with the Director of the School of Social Work on decisions associated with the position, but must work independently, with initiative, and with considerable latitude in decision-making. Impact: As a key liaison between SSW and the community, the incumbent is in a position to shape the public perception and reputation of the School and the university as a competent place to prepare professional social workers. Incorrect placement or matching of students to agencies may result in the student not continuing in the program or reaching his/her education potential. 4.
