Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Physician, Student Health, performs the duties of a clinical physician at the Student Health Center (SHC) located in Reno in the University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM). The position’s responsibilities include clinical care of patients, collaboration with Physician’s Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners, and participation in designated campus activities such as student orientation. Position participates in teaching and evaluating medical students during clinical rotations and performs administrative/ program management duties as assigned. The position reports to the Director of Student Health Services. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 85% - Evaluation and Treatment of Patients Perform duties typically associated with a physician in an outpatient setting to include patient examination and evaluation, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting tests and other related duties 5% - Administrative Program Management Participate in one or more administrative programs identified as important and necessary to the department which include but are not limited to: Quality Assurance Committee, Student Health Advisory Committee, Insurance Advisory Committee, Continuing Medical Education Committee, Chart Review Committee Participate in campus activities such as orientation, educational programming for students or other health related events 5% - Midlevel Practitioners Supervision Using recognized family medical protocols and guidelines, perform duties of collaborating physicians with department physician extenders Assist in evaluating midlevel practitioners 5% - Teaching and Evaluating Medical Students Teach and evaluate UNSOM medical students in the clinical rotation setting according to UNSOM guidelines 3. Level of Freedom: The Student Health Center is a clinical practice that provides health care to university students as well as faculty and staff. Administrative duties assigned to these positions have been identified as very important to the Department’s provision of care and general operation. The Student Health Center also serves an important role in providing safety and health information to the campus as a whole.
