Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Manager, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Information Technology, promotes and enhances the mission of “research, education, and service” for CSE by 1) planning, deploying and managing securely and effectively CSE’s complex, heterogeneous computing and networking resources; 2) working with faculty, researchers, and students to specify and install specialized computing hardware and software needs for research and education; 3) assisting CSE’s faculty and researchers for internal university and external funding for state-of-the-art resources; 4) working with College of Engineering (COE) and University of Nevada, Reno Information Technology (IT) to administer and secure department infrastructure and services; and 5) supporting and assisting with the instructional and research needs of the department. The position is assigned to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in COE and functionally reports to the Chair of CSE. 2. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 80% - Computing Infrastructure Management Administers, maintains, secures, and upgrades the CSE department’s computing, communication, and software services Consults with faculty to determine new hardware and software needs for infrastructure, research, and instruction Writes, tests, and runs scripts for automating repetitive systems administration tasks in a high availability environment 24x7 Stays up-to-date on advances in systems administration, computing systems, and software Completes tasks as assigned by CSE Department Chair 15% - Operations Management Tracks and reports on department’s computing hardware Works with Department Chair to request, hire, and manage part-time student workers Helps the department apply for internal UNR funding and contribute to external funding for infrastructure improvements Tasks as assigned by CSE Department Chair 5%- Coordination Coordinate with UNR IT, Information Security and other Institutional entities 3.
