Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. The Instructional Designer, Teaching & Learning Technologies, supports faculty in the development of teaching and learning strategies and applications utilizing instructional technologies and participates in workshops, training programs and consultation services for faculty on course design and web course development. The position reports to the Manager of Instructional Design. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 40% - Instructional Design Assist and support faculty in the development of appropriate teaching and learning strategies and applications utilizing instructional technologies. This includes providing consulting support to faculty in course design and developing appropriate teaching/learning applications of technologies, keeping abreast of emerging instructional design theories and instructional technology applications Assist faculty in development of web-based courses, including the use of web-based applications and digital media. Of particular interest will be the use of web-based course management tools, such as WebCampus for support of Web-based, hybrid, and Webenhanced courses 40% - Orientation and Training Participate on an Instructional Design team to plan, prepare and present faculty seminars and workshops and provide consulting services to faculty on course design, web course development, personal productivity software, and special presentation software Opportunities to promote instructional technology to faculty will present themselves in a variety of venues 10% - Production activities Produce instructional materials and ensure availability for courses; delegation of production activities support services within TLT or across campus may be possible 5% - Evaluation of materials produced Evaluate and assess instructional materials and presentation of seminars/workshops for effectiveness and success 5% - Other university services 3. Level of Freedom The Instructional Designer must develop a collaborative relationship with the faculty member who will ultimately control the content and design of the course. The Instructional Designer must work independently, with initiative, and with little day to day oversight from the Manager. Impact The work product of the Instructional Designer if very visible to the campus – students and faculty and has direct impact on quality of instruction and the student learning experience. Decisions and performance impact the unit’s ability to provide quality programs and services, which may in turn impact the academic integrity of the university. 4.
