Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Head Coach, Men's Tennis is responsible for directing all aspects of a competitive and successful Division I Men's Tennis program, including practice and game-day coaching, recruitment and retention of high-quality student-athletes, scheduling, budget management and oversight, team and recruiting travel, collaboration with support units, academic oversight, supervision of staff. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 35% - Coaching - Teaching/Training – Technical Information Teach technical aspects of the game and coach the student-athlete the fundamentals and strategy within their sport as part of an academic course Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and university rules and regulations (subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures) 25% - Scouting / Recruitment Handle scouting reports and film breakdown Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes; conduct on- and off-campus visits; serve as liaison with high school and university officials regarding various student services such as admissions, financial aid, etc. 20% - Supervision and Staff Management Handle directly or supervise administrative details of group such as travel, transportation, scheduling, and other similar logistics Conduct staff meetings, manage budgets, manage scholarships, and perform other management level duties 15% - Public Relations, Promotion, and Fundraising Participate in community activities and public relations events with high schools, parents, community and within the university Participate in fundraising for both the program and the department as a whole When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for UNR’s team efforts 3. Level of Freedom: Athletics is one of the most publicly visible programs on campus. Impact: The decisions and judgments made by the incumbent of this position and the results of work performed have a major impact on the athletic department, university, and Conference. It is essential that the integrity of Wolf Pack Athletics be maintained. Team success, academic eligibility, and student-athletes’ progress toward a degree are necessities. The program must be in compliance with current NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and non-adherence or noncompliance results in ineligibility to play in NCAA and Conference athletics. Unacceptable behavior and positive behavior on and off the field by coaches and athletes is highly visible and reflects on the program, athletic department and university. 4.
